Sokoto State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress on Tuesday unveiled the former special assistant to the Minister of Police Affairs, Idris Muhammad Gobir, as deputy governorship candidate ahead of the 2023 election.

Speaking while addressing newsmen at the party secretariat in the state, the chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Isa Acida, said the party governorship candidate, Ahmad Sokoto, after wide consultation with the party stalwarts and stakeholders, has settled on Idris Gobir as his running mate.

Gobir was also a former Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning and one-time Sole Administrator of Sabon Birnin Local Government Area in the state.

The 47-year-old, who is an alumnus of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria also has five master’s degrees in various disciplines of human management and development, including computer software management, as well as international affairs and diplomacy.

In his acceptance speech, Gobir thanked Ahmad Aliyu, Senator Aliyu Wamakko, and the party stakeholders in the state for finding him worthy, promising that he would not betray the confidence reposed in him.

He further added that he would work with the party leaders in the state to ensure APC wins the 2023 governorship election.

It has been recalled that the governorship candidate of PDP, Mallam Umar Sa’adu, also picked Sagir Bafarawa, also from the eastern part of the state as his running mate.
