About seven cars which belonged to the Nigerian Correctional Service were burnt during the attack on the Kuje Custodial Centre on Tuesday.

The PUNCH had reported that the attackers besieged the prison and detonated explosives which razed the cars and also pulled down a wall.

According to the Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Magashi (retd.), the attackers freed 64 Boko Haram members among about 600 inmates who were said to have escaped the facility.

The PUNCH reports that government officials say about 300 inmates have been returned to custody while 300 others were still being hunted down with the joint help of the Armed Squad of the NCoS, Nigerian Police Force, the military and the Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps, and vigilante groups.
